Jotunspor brings together ex-members of Gorgoroth, guitarist / bassist King Ov Hell and drummer Kvitrafn as they unleash the primal sounds of Gleipnirs Smeder to the black metal community. The sound is raw, primitive and atmospheric at times with lyrics sung completely in Norwegian and the ancient norse language. During the past year King has been a part of three different bands, he recorded Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam with Gorgoroth and the debut Sahg CD , but it's with this new project that he really explores new territory sonically. The second track "Svartalvheims Djup" for example stands out in comparison to the rest of the material. Consider it a 7 minute, almost ambient sounding experiment but one that works quite well. The remainder of the CD's tracks are extremely harsh and uncompromising. What began as a side project for King could well become something more permanent because the material on Gleipnirs Smeder is definitely something fans of this genre of music will be interested in.

The conceptual aspect of Timeline: The Beginning and End of Everything may be the most interesting part of this album for sci-fi fans and science geeks. The lyrics here tell the story of the universe, right from the Big Bang all the way through the distant collapse of the universe. Match up this unique concept (surely not one often covered in black/death metal) with some of the most kick-ass extreme metal I've heard this year, and you have a winner for sure!

The production is clear and powerful, without ever sounding over-produced. This album was entirely engineered, produced, mixed, and mastered by Ron Vento - in addition to being an excellent musician, it seems he also has a clue about making a stellar production.

In my opinion their third best album after: "The Work Which Transforms God" and "Vetusta Memory II".

The album "777 - Sect (s)" is the first in a trilogy of albums to be released this year. the other albums are: "777-Desantification " and  "777-Cosmosophy ".

Merrimack
MERRIMACK is one of the most poignant and sophisticated acts of the French underground. Melody is utilized in contrast with dissonance and intelligent, atypical songwriting to produce this furious and unpredictable force which marries the old and new. Full-length album of black metal at its extremity, featuring members of Marduk and Funeral Mist, Triumphator was formed in 1995, but it wasn't until 1999 that the Swedish death metal/black metal combo finally recorded its first full-length CD, Wings of Antichrist -- and it wasn't until early 2000 that this disc became commercially available in North America. Triumphator isn't big on versatility; after you've heard a few minutes of this predictable CD, you've pretty much heard it all. The band usually favors one tempo -- ultra-fast -- and all of the lyrics deal with Satanism and the occult. Not that you can understand the words that are coming out of vocalist/guitarist Arioch's mouth; his choked, demonic style of singing renders them indecipherable. But despite its obvious limitations, Wings of Antichrist is a CD that some people in the death metal/black metal underground will enjoy.
